I have never observed this while loading “google.com” webpage, but as mentioned on lifehacker, Google is experimenting on fading homepage. You can see this fade visually through video. They are aiming to create a more simpler design for their users.
I personally think Google.com is much simpler than many webpages i have seen. To get it more simpler would be something i will definitely watch out for.
The experimental design does away with every detail except for the Google logo and the search box, revealing the other navigation links only when a user mouses over the screen (one version of the page removes the “Google Search” and “I’m Feeling Lucky” buttons entirely).
